چکیده

Chemical properties of cationic biosorbents, the orange peel and the lemon peel, have been studied. ATR and Raman spectra indicated that the functional groups in the peels structure responsible for dye sorption are carboxyl groups (COOH and COOM, M=Na,K,Ca,Mg) and hydroxyl groups (OH). Increasing the mass of the peels in water suspensions a decrease in dissociation of both, the –COOH and –COOM groups was obtained. Sorption isotherms of methylene blue onto the biosorbents had two sorption plateaus. Hence the carboxyl groups interacted with methylene blue up to the first plateau, while sorption by also the hydroxyl groups occurred from the first to the second plateau. A very good agreement between the amounts of the carboxyl groups estimated in the peels and the amounts of the dye molecules sorbed onto the peels was obtained.

Sorption of Methylene Blue onto Orange and Lemon Peel

This study examines the sorption of methylene blue on the cheap unconventional bio sorbents, citrus fruits: oranges and lemons. Bio sorbents which was used was: orange and lemon peel, seeds and pulp. The results are compared with results of sorption to mineral sorbents, zeolite clinoptilolite, Pyrolox and Birm. Sorption kinetics and the influence of pH on the sorption of methylene blue on orang...

INFLUENCE OF pH ON METHYLENE BLUE SORPTION KINETICS FROM AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS USING ORANGE PEELS AS A LOW-COST SORBENT

In the present work, the effect of initial pH of methylene blue solution on the kinetics of dye sorption from synthetic aqueous solution by a natural waste material namely: orange peels, was studied. Kinetic data were measured in batch conditions. Methylene blue uptake was time contact and solution initial pH dependent. Maximum dye sorption was found to occur at initial pH 9. Two simplified kin...

Biochar from Orange (citrus sinensis) Peels by Acid Activation for Methylene Blue Adsorption

In this work, orange (Citrus sinensis) peels biochar (OPBC) were prepared by one-step H2SO4 activation for Methylene Blue (MB) adsorption from aqueous solution. The physicochemical properties of OPBC were characterized using instrumental analyses such as CHNS-O analyzer, Fourier Transform InfraRed (FT-IR) spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-Ray Diffract...

Characterization of Two Cellulosic Waste Materials (orange and Almond Peels) and Their Use for the Removal of Methylene Blue from Aqueous Solutions

The ability of orange peels (OP) and almond peels (AP) as adsorbents for the removal of a dyestuff, namely methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solutions has been studied. After their characterization by different techniques (elemental analysis, biochemical analysis, IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, scanning electron microscopy, mercury porosimetry), adsorption kinetics of the dye have ...

A Mechanistic Approach to Methylene Blue Sorption on Two Vegetable Wastes: Cork Bark and Grape Stalks

Two vegetable wastes, cork bark and grape stalks, were investigated for the removal of methylene blue from aqueous solution. The effects of contact time, dye concentration, pH, and temperature on sorption were studied relative to adsorption on a commercially-activated carbon. The highest adsorption yield was obtained within the pH range 5 to 10 for grape stalks and 7 to 10 for cork bark. The so...
